Why is there a Motorcraft sticker on Richmond's '83 Lemans?

I know Tim drove the Motorcraft squarebird the year prior, but isn't Motorcraft FoMoCo-specific? What's the Motorcraft in reference to on a Pontiac? The rear end, maybe? Thanks.

I am sure it meant ignition parts. Alan Kulwicki had AC Delco prominently displayed on the trunk of his Zerex Ford at one time.

I know that Motorcraft was on the Old Milwaukee sprint car fielded by Blue Max Racing and sponsored by Old Milwaukee. Money talks in racing, ya know? Ricky Rudd also had AC as a sponsor on his first #10 ‘Birds too like AK. I wonder if GM considered it a coup to have their factory parts being used in a Ford and vice versa.

Then again, just because the sticker is on the car don't mean they are using that product. In the 90's I was able to hang around a Cup team and seen a few examples of that going on.

the Best one for me was the Buick decal on BA Thunderbird....and Monte Carlo

I'll leave the details to someone who knows the story better than I can remember it. I do remember that he said that the Buick rep finally asked him to take it off.

Buick Motor Sports on the T-bird is my favorite too. Laughing

I also like how the Pearson #21 Chattanooga Chew '85 T-bird was clearly done up to look like a GM product - squared window corners, body-colored headlight bezels, etc. I guess they could get away with this stuff more when media coverage wasn't as fierce and TV resolutions were terrible.

Thanks for a fun discussion, guys. Very Happy

Even though the color combo is hard on my eyes, brown is hard to think of as racy, I have to admit to liking that paint scheme. You're right, the only thing missing is the bowtie above the grille.

Raymond Beadle was sponsored by Ford for his drag racing efforts. That's probably the reason for the Motorcraft decal. I'm not sure they were on any manufacturer's factory deal in NASCAR for '83, Pontiac certainly wouldn't have appreciated them running the LeMans.
