Does anyone know when the diagonal rollcage bar known as the "Petty Bar" started to show up in other teams or other builders cars. I have a reference photo of a '69-'70 Harry Hyde (Nichels) car that plainly does not have one.
I know that Nichels lost the Chrysler car-building deal to Petty in 1970 and wondered if the Petty Bar was an addition from that point on, or if others started using them before that time. It seems like the Petty bar was a standard feature of Hutcheson-Pagan and Banjo cars later but just wanted to know when they became common or if they were mandated by Nascar at some point.

DC-93 had the "Petty bar" when it rolled out of Nichels Engineering Nov. 1968.
Now, you are talking the bar from the upper pass "A" pillar to the back, landing by the driver side shock area, right? |

That's the one. I thought for some reason that Petty used that bar in that configuration first and it just evolved to other cars. The pic I referenced of the #71 car, upon looking at it closer, the bar doesn't segue into the rear horizontal like I thought it appeared to. I think the pic has more fisheye lens effect to it than I realized- and does appear to be a regular Petty bar.
I remember the parts callout on probably a Jo-Han or Lindbergh listed them as 'Petty Bars".
Thanks,

I thought the Petty Bar was the one running from the right frame rail behind the RF tire, through the firewall to the multi - bar junction to the right of the driver's seat :

If that's the bar in question, my Bettenhausen Daytona has it and it was built by Nichels in late 67 as a 68 model year USAC stock car. |

No. The Petty bar is the one that runs diagonally up to the top right front corner of the cage to triangulate the front portion of the cage uprights. |
