Another car I've wanted to do for a long time, this one was another challenging build.
Jerry is a localish hero, from Danbury, CT, about 40 minutes away from me. So when he went Cup racing in 1998 I of course had a new favorite to root for. His career didn't go as well as I would have hoped, but he did win a race. This is the car he attempted to run the 1998 schedule in, although he was fired midway through the season.
Building this car was a bit of a challenge...because these are Madame decals. If you are new to the hobby you may not know what that means, but if you've been around a while...you know. They are not known for being good decals...or even usable decals. These were surprisingly easy to work with, other than the neon stripes, which shattered badly. even with Decal Bonder on them. Contingencies and headlights were from Slixx. There should be a bunch of small sponsors on the rear fender stripes but Madame didn't bother to include them and I couldn't tell what they were from my reference photos so I just left it blank.
Rookie stripes are actually cut down from a 1/64 1992 Sunoco car's bottom stripes from Patto's.
Paint is Tamiya Pure white and Model Master Lacquer Tropical Turquoise.
When I finished this build, Jerry became the 100th different driver I've built in 1/24 scale. _________________ Billy Kingsley
