Hi all.
I have seen a couple of #28 Lumina's, black and white Havoline
But this Buick
Is it a genuine Allison car as he once raced or a Buick race fan's painted tribute car?

It's a real car that Davey raced. Been in the process of building one myself.
It was a lot cheaper to run a GM product in the Busch Series back then. Don't know if his dad had an interest in this car or not. Ford finally stepped in and said they wanted their star driver in a Thunderbird. |

Yeah, pretty sure that Davey driving a GM product in the BGN Series pushed Ford to up their interest and investment in the series. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

I built this one about 10 years ago.
Ford did not have a very strong Busch program at the time and most teams ran the GM stuff, I think Roush really help bring Ford back into the Busch series in a big way. _________________ Roanoke, VA. |

There was an article in SCR magazine showing the Lumina being built in Bobby Allison's shop. there was also a black Mac Tools GM car that Davey raced.
Very kool builds on these Racers. |

Thanks for the confirmation.
Am planning two Davey* builds this year and then this Buick turns up. I have a spare Mono' Buick so I think to Mike's for more decals. |

Is the Lumina you mentioned white with gold decals? I've seen that car pop up before. _________________ "Many men fish all their lives without knowing it is not the fish they are after." Henry David Thoreau

Okay, thank you. I've been toying with the idea of building the white #28 Lumina. Haven't searched for the decals, hopefully they're out there. _________________ "Many men fish all their lives without knowing it is not the fish they are after." Henry David Thoreau

This car, or a replica, is actually on Youtube. Who'd have thunk it!
Great to see actual footage of it. |

As I recall, Ford did not have a competitive V-6 engine in The Busch Grand National Series for quite a long time; certainly nothing that could compete with the Buick & Chevy V-6's. Keep in mind that Buick was heavily involved in Indy Car Racing at the time with their Turbo V-6, with a lot of knowledge & parts crossover likely. |

IIRC, Hut Strickland drove the black Regal at IRP one year. Maybe the year DA got hurt at Pocono? I'd have to go back and look at the year. It's on You tube.
IRP was a great race and a great place to see some one off deals.
More fodder for the Some Day pile..... |

Per the link to the Lumina picture Hillbilly posted, looks like there might be a use for the error decals from the Monogram Thunderbird kit. |

And yet more Busch Buicks.
This car with the Texaco logo on the side.
If the Regal used this scheme, that would be a great looking build. Use the sharp edge bumper as on the Quaker State. |
