KS: Hello everyone and welcome to the Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington for the 2018 season opener for the Fantasy Cup Series; the Subway 200. I'm Ken Squier alongside my collegue, 3 time NASCAR Winston Cup champion, Darrell Waltrip. Darrell, can you think of a more interesting track to start the season off with?

DW: Aside from running on a dog track, I really couldn't, Ken. This track's a little bit of everything. There's a figure 8, a bigger oval, then the biggest oval. They'll be running on the bigest part but the start/finish line is in the middle of the figure 8 which puts it right at the entrance of turn 1. That could make for some interesting results before the day is over.

KS: Indeed it could, DW. And how about that pit layout? You cross the start/finish line, pit on the otherside of the middle oval, then come back around to cross the start/finish line again. And now let's go trackside for opening ceremonies.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and remove your hats for our national anthem."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAyquyvlE4c

"And now with the most famous words in motorsports, give it up for our Grand Marshall, Washington's own Derrike Cope!"

DK: Drivers, start your engines!!

Green Flag

DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go Fantasy Cup racin'!!

KS: And the Buicks lead the field into turns 1 and 2. Darth Vader on the inside and Georgia, the Rally driving rabbit from Wales run side by side with neither of them giving anything up as they come down the back straightaway.

DW: They're gonna hold that formation through 3 and 4.

KS: And the drag race down the front stretch to lead the first lap of the season is gonna go to Tatooine's Darth Vader.

DW: Ken, did anyone tell these two that this was the FIRST lap? We've still got 199 of these things to go!

Lap 37

DW: Ken, I can't believe this! Georgia, in her first ever race in a stock car, is still right there with Vader!!

KS: And they've swapped the lead at least 9 or 10 times in these opening laps.

DW: We've got a pretty good wad of cars right behind them though. Lee "Spud" Loggins and Ricky Marcis look like they're about to go 3 wide with Edward Carl in that 19 Ford.

Lap 56

KS: How about that 40 car of Merling Starlin? He gets a push from the man they call the Razorback and they'll put the 3 of Hick Strutlin back to 7th.

Lap 74

DW: Trouble in turn 3!

KS: And the 19 of Edward Carl, in a huge cloud of smoke goes into the wall at the apex of turns 3 and 4!

DW: And that's gotta be a blown engine because he was smokin' since turn 2. He just got in his own oil and couldn't make it back to the pits in time. Tough day for that team.

Lap 79

DW: That call for no tires by "Rench" Turner put that 40 car of Starlin right up front.

KS: And they come back to the green flag and Vader is wasting no time going to the inside of Georgia and the 88 Chevy of Rob Stofel who took 2 tires.

Lap 125

KS: And we've got smoke down the back straightaway! Car number 46, the 2013 champion JR Sealey has plowed into the wall and will now limp his Pontiac to the apron but will not make it back to the pits after cutting a right front tire.

Lap 179

KS: Darrell, has that 6 car of Vader been on a rail today or what?

DW: You know, as good a pod racer as that guy was, he's certainly shown that he's still got it.

KS: He leads the field with Loggins trying to draw a bead on him.

Lap 189

KS: And Loggins, who has been gaining 1/10 of a second every 3 laps is within a few car lengths of the leader but he's got the beer wagon piloted by Merling Starlin closing in.

DW: I think he ran about all the good off of those tires. He was drivin' like he stole that thing!

White Flag

DW: This was a trip to the wood shed today, Ken!

KS: Indeed as the man they call Vader sails through turns 3 and 4 and down the front stretch for the final time. He will win the Subway 200 here at Evergreen! Merling Starlin will come in 2nd followed by Lee "Spud" Loggins.

DW: Rob Stofel's gonna take home 4th, Georgia's gonna round out the top 5, and Hick Strutlin edges out Ricky Marcis for 6th.

KS: And the 2 cars out of the race, the 46 of JR Sealey and the 19 of Edward Carl will be scored in 8th and 9th respectively.

DW: What a clinic that 6 team put on today!

KS: And with that, for Darrell Waltrip, I'm Ken Squier. Thank you for joining us and we'll see you next week in Florida for the Holiday Inn 100 at Southern Speedway!

HEY !!!! Thanks for featuring my hometown racetrack - Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA., about 40 miles NE of Seattle and due East from Everett, WA.
Several points to mention : The piles of dirt in the main pit area -- across from Start / Finish Line -- are not normally there. Probably an old Motorcross or BMX track; the current version is located inside Turn 1 & 2, where the groups of 3 white tires are visible in the photo.
The weird angled infield road from the back straight to Turn 4 Exit is the Sportsman pits. The grandstands are now painted in the colors of NASCAR's recent logo. Also there's a big dip coming off Turn 4 on the 5/8th Mile, right where you would get back in the Gas !!! Lotsa fun there... Shocked
