What is everyone doing about the raised lettering on the tires? are you sanding it off or cutting out the middle and turning it over?
The decals dont work on the raised lettering

I cut out the middle and swap sides. I generally use a stencil and paint the lettering. |

I cut out the middle and swap sides as well. Use powerslide decals for the lettering. |

For me wheels & tires are a key element of how a model will turn out so I discard raised lettering tires and go with better aftermarket tires & decals. _________________ "When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it" - Yogi Berra |

I cut the middle out and flip.
However, i recently ran out of “blank” sprint car kit tires and decided to try something… i sanded off the lettering and then hit the tires with some Tamiya “rubber black” TS-82 spray. Man, that stuff is nice and works well. _________________ ON DECK/IN THE WORKS: too many started to list...

Assuming we are discussing the Monogram tires. To my eye, the 'ridge' around the outer part of the sidewall on the 'smooth' side is too pronounced. I've found that sanding down the raised lettering worth the effort. _________________ Bill Jobson is my real name.

I agree. I cut the lettering off with an xacto or sand them or a combo of both. It also usually leaves me a nice template on where to place the decals. |

As above, I trim the lettering with a hobby knife and sand the rest with a sanding stick. |

I use a grinding attachment on the rotary tool to remove the lettering, the ridge on the inside sidewall, and the molding lines. Then i sand the whole tire to even out where i may have gotten a little too aggressive with the grinding. Spray the outer sidewalls with gloss coat, apply powerslide tire decals, then spray the whole tire with dull coat. |
