August 2nd, 2022 -- NASCAR Owner / Driver INDEPENDENT Buddy Rogers Arrington passed away. A MOPAR loyalist through 20 years, until late in the 1984 Cup season when he bought a Ford from Bill Elliott; the Chrysler bodies would be too old in 1985.
Although he never won a Cup race in 563 starts, Buddy had a great many fans at every track, especially when he became the last MOPAR Cup driver. Buddy's son ( and engine builder ) Joey would later be instrumental in Dodge's return to NASCAR.
Although I am a life-long GM loyalist, I always rooted for Buddy at Riverside Raceway. I shared his pain when Buddy DNQ'ed in 1985, after towing across country -- Chasing Points. It always sucks to leave the track a day early... R.I.P. Buddy... |
