Lacquer? Enamel? Acrylic?

I would use the applicable type of thinner and rub the model down with it.

If it is Lacquer or Urethane you will need 91% alcohol.

If it is Enamel & most primers you will need Purple Power/ Castrol Super clean.

Super Clean/Purple Power for most everything.
BUT, when that does not do it you need Scalecoat Paint Remover. In my exeprience it removes everything including the nearly bullet proof Tamyia TS rattle can paints. Its NOT CHEAP, and as such I use it very sparingly and only when absolutly necessary

I did a google search, here is one of many place I found.

For automotive paints it works well
caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) take care with the skin..

or brake fluid,no damage for the plastic with that two products,

for acrylic paints,never tried
