Model ia a modified Polar Lights kit of a 69 Talladega back dated to a 68 Torino. Grill and front bumper are resin pieces from The Modelhaus, Ford emblem removed from grill. Paint is Tamiya Pure White and Tamiya Dark Mica Blue. Decals are from the latest Powerslide Wood Brothers sheet.

Fabulous Bill. I have a couple Talladegas in my cemetery and your conversion inspires me. _________________ "When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it" - Yogi Berra |

I had a crushed AMT Torino body, cut off the front fenders ahead of the wheelwells. I marked the front edge of he Polalr lights hood on the PL body and fit the AMT Torino fender ends to that. The hood edge meets the front efge of the Torino grille opening. I used the PL hood, as is.
The hard part is coming up with a 68 Grille and bumper, I bought mine some years ago when Modelhaus was still in business. I have no idea where you could get a 68 grille now. |

Thanks, some where here some one cut the front of the Torino and Polar lights car off at the windshield and did it that way. This sounds some what easier. You can get a 68 Torino front grill from Hart Resin Parts, it is not plated and has the pesky Ford logo on it. There stuff is really good almost just like plastic |

I didn't know Hart's Parts made a 68 grille, good info. I modified a PL body to accept a 68 grille for a friend. I used the 69 AMT Torino I had to copy the shape of the fender ends and matching fenders to the PL hood. Came out fine. There' usually more ways to get it done. I may consider doing another, I could make Dr. Craft's Allison Torino maybe. |

I'll echo that last 'graph. Scored a couple off that Detroit-based resin casting outfit(who's name escapes me as I type) but offered really good casts with excellent chrome work. |

Where did you pick up the nose mod piece? I've had no luck finding Modelhaus stuff anywhere. I've got a couple of street 68 Torinos but I wouldn't mind trying the conversion on a Polar Lights kit. |

I cut off the front fenders of an AMT 69 Torino ahead of the front wheel wells and cut off the front fenders of a Polar Lights Talladega, I used the Talladega hood as my guide to determine where exactly to out the Torino fender pieces. I left the pieces a little long so I could file to fit precisely.
The 68 grille came from Modelhaus, they are out of business for a few years now. Hart's Parts sells a 68 grille and bumper piece if you need one. Same as the Modelhause piece.
I sanded the rear spoiler to make it lower, as the 1:1 cars had less spoiler than the PL kit does. Also the 68 Torinos and Mercurys were ran with 2 4Bbl carbs on the 427 FE engines. The Boss 429 was not allowed until Atlanta 1969. The Fords and Mercs at the first races in 1969 were using the fe 427 but only allowed a single 4 barrel carb. |

In racing trim, is the '68 Torino grille really that much different than the '69 Torino grille?
Pix I have looked at seem very similar. |

Looking at the kit pieces, the 1968 has a bar looking trim running horizontally thru the middle and a rectangular pattern for the grill, where the 69 has a horizontal grill pattern. |

The 68 grille also is sort of pointed, comes to a peak from top to bottom and the 69 grille is fairly flat with all horizontal bars. The 68 grille comes with a Ford logo in the center, which I filed away. No logs on the 69 Torino Cobra grille.
The original annual AMT kit of the 69 Torino was a GT which had a different grille and a GT logo offset left of center on the grille area. |

Dan Gurney is indeed the answer to the trivia question : " Who was the first driver to win 5 Five Hundred Mile NASCAR Races at the same track ??? " |
