A while back I saw an old racing movie called Thunder in Carolina. It featured real footage from the 1959 Southern 500. There was a brief clip of Richard Petty in a white car with a blue roof. It looked real cool and since I had just discovered the world of aftermarket decals I started searching. I found the blue 43 for the doors and many options for the roof and quarter panels. I started with the Christine kit and sanded all the trim then filled the headlights and taillights with Tamiya putty. Lots of rustoleum primer and paint to cover the red molded body. Used Tamiya light blue for the roof, hood and wheels. Plastic Performance wheels and tires finished it off. I know Petty didn’t get the STP sponsorship till the seventies and I think I over did it with the 7UP decals but I’m not a sticker for accuracy.

Excellent job H.S. Is that a 57 and did you use the Christine kit. Really awesome work. Need more details like what paint you used, what decals did you use, etc. etc. |

Very cool. Love the look of the big-finned Plymouths from '58 and '59. I've got the Christine kit and a 59 resin Fury body, hoping to do Lee Petty's title winning car. They don't mate up perfectly so it's on the 'to do' list but this is a fun take on those cars. |
