Wally Masters lived within a few walking minutes from Speedway Park in Jacksonville.
This car and the future (numbered 2 x 4) cars were built in his backyard garage.
My father and I would drive by in the evenings just to get a peak at what was going on .
One of the last of the skinny tire cars. The next ones were using the wider racing tires.
His driver was Willie Carter. Worked a blue collar job during the week but was a
hero to all of us in the grandstands on a Saturday night.
AMT 34 Ford body. Modified frame from a Revell 29 Model A. Small block Ford engine
(from some kit?). Evergreen .062 scratch built roll cage. PPP tires/wheels...
Those flames (or whatever) are decals. Not so difficult.
Second Willie Carter car I have posted. The #8 model A Modified is still on
the front page.
Willie bought a can of paint from a local paint store. Mexican Bandit Red. Expect
he painted the stripes himself.....
On the bench. One of the 2X4 cars. which was said to have been a rebuild of this same 29.
