Jody Ridley's LMS Mustang
In the late 1970s Jody Ridley would occasionally race at the Birmingham International Raceway (BIR). When he pulled into the entry gate at BIR the regulars knew Jody was going to be tough to beat. I was running my Chevelle in the street stock class and after we loaded up after our feature we would all gather on top of the trailer to watch Jody put on a show. I do not know if Jody was running a different gear than everyone else or if he just hit on the right suspension set-up, but man when that ole 'Stang came out of Turn 2 and Jody got back in the throttle that car would just leap! The nose would stand up until the front spoiler bit and then it would just hunker down and he would be gone. Watched Jody battle many a Friday night at BIR and beat all those Camaros and Red's own Mustang. Great memories of a great racer!
KIT: Body is AMT 1973 Mustang HEAVILY modified. Chassis is an AMT Nascar 90s-era T-Bird also heavily modified.
PAINT: Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue and TS-26 White. Engine and other parts painted using Model Master Metallics.
DECALS: Polecat for main decals and Powerslide for instrument gauges, fire ext., door handle block offs and wheel weights. Other decals used for details are from various other contingency sheets.
TIRES: PPP Firestone LMS. Wheels are from the AMT Bobby Allison Monte Carlo kit.
ADDITIONAL BUILDING NOTES:
The L-88 hood scoop came from a Baldwin Motion Chevelle kit grafted onto the kit hood. The Moroso air breather came from Big Donkey Resin. I used different gauges of aluminum wire for the plumbing. The connectors were scratch built using Plastruc hex rod painted stainless steel then Tamiya clear red or blue. Everything else was pretty much scratch built using Evergreen plastic and parts from my spare box.

I really enjoyed this build. It was on my "TO DO" list for a long time. It makes a good addition to my LMS shelf in my display case and every time I see it I'm reminded of all those nights at BIR. Again, good memories. This is my first post since Randy's came back up. I have more I built when the site was down and I'll post as soon as I can.

Top notch build, the kind of stuff I always wanted to do when I was still building.
Even replicated the tire mark on the door from the photo... |

Thanks for the compliment Bill! I used Evergreen clear plastic for the rear spoiler cut to fit. I first made the attachment portion (the bottom part glued to the rear end of the body) using KS aluminum sheet cut to fit and bent at the correct angle. I painted the clear part at the attachment point where I was going to glue it to the aluminum part using Model Master Stainless Steel so when I glued it to the aluminum part you couldn't see the glue thru the clear. I then used Microscale rivet decals on the spoiler to simulate the rivets used on the real spoiler of the car. Hope all that makes sense. I probably should've taken photos. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for all the kind words. This build was a labor of love. I've a few more I finished during the time Randy's was down I'll post as soon as I can. Just been busy doing a lot of spring chores. Working harder than an ugly stripper!
