In 1970 Dr. Don Tarr drove a Dodge Charger 500 (not the lime green one), but a red and white "Coca Cola" one with the number 37 and white wheels.
He drove it in 3 to 4 races.

I saw him drive it in the Rebel 400 at Darlington in April 1970.

Have always thought it to be one of the best Coca Cola design cars and would love to actually build it.

I can only find one pic on the internet and its pretty bad.

Anyone have any info or pics of this race car?

Thanks Much
David

Is this the car?

I also make decals for this car.

I make them with a clear background now.

He's a doctor. He drives a Daytona. Pretty much set up to be the ultimate First Responder.

Thunderbirds are go.

None of those are the car in question. This is the car he's asking about. It was a Charger 500, not a Daytona and I saw him race it at Talladega in '70. One of the most strikingly pretty schemes I've ever seen. I've been looking for a good photo for 50 years.

Found some partial pictures at Petersen Digital Archive. Search "1970 Nascar 500 Charlotte." It gives 3 partial photos in the mix, one of the car in the pits, one closeup of Don Tarr behind the wheel, and one of a side view of the back half of the car.

Petersen is my first go-to for reference!

Thanks! I suspected the one was Biscayne Dodge but I had no idea about the other one. Brock & Triplett Machine Shop, which was in North Wilkesboro. I suspect that was Charlie Triplett, one of the founders of the '70s Baby Grand series.

Those Peterson photos are the clearest ones I've seen of Don Tarr's Red/white Charger 500.

I seem to recall there was a photo published in Stock Car Racing Magazine at one of the late-1970 season race reports, either the National 500 (Charlotte) or the Southern 500 (Darlington), that showed that same car crashed against the wall, with Don Tarr standing beside it, trying to stay safely out of the way. The picture caption said he'd broken a finger in the crash. Does anybody know the picture I'm talking about?

There's also some very brief (about 1 sec) color video of it at about 2:18-2:20 in this video:

He drove a winged Dodge Daytona earlier in the season (the lime green, pictured in bangor boy's post up thread), I wonder why he downgraded to a Charger 500 late in the season.

This one is obviously not a 500, but not the crashed car either, as the hood numbers are a different font.

Not a 500 with that tunnel back window although I suppose it might have raced with a Mopar part numbered 500 grille.

It was entered at Talladega by Dr. Tarr as the owner. Don was always strong at Talladega, he led five laps early before blowing an engine.

There's a guy on Facebook makes decals. Look up Dynomite decals. Its Dennis Santourus.
