During the 60’s & into the 70’s Columbia Speedway was the hub of southern late model racing. Real cars converted to dirt track racers with many of the Grand National stars of the day taking part.
Especially at Columbia, which filled the stands every Thursday night.
The #22 was a typical late model of this era. Built, owned & sometimes driven by Louie Weatherbee.
But his star driver was LeeRoy Yarbrough, who had moved to Columbia from Florida to be closer to the NASCAR action.

The track is still in existence today. Check it out with Dale Jrs. “Lost Speedways “ on the peacock channel.

Very cool. Always enjoy builds of local short track cars with the backstory.

Very nice build, definitely captures the look from those days. I did attend one of the Thursday night races back in 70. Good racing.
