Have Fred Lorenzen's 65 Galaxie on my near future build list. Getting parts up, just wandering what y'all were using for a chassis on these cars? Thanks

Sorry, meant to put this in the Dark side section. Could someone move it? Thanks

The kit chassis is good once you remove the molded in exhaust system and make a few other mods, Fuel cells began in 65 and also tube steel headers, although early season could be cast headers.

If I remember correctly, the stock tank was moved to the inside of the trunk and enclosed.

Doctor Craft used to own the Daytona 500 winner of Freddie's, maybe ha can answer better.

That is so cool, clearly shows the tank in the trunk. Thanks for posting it.

An AMT 66 Galaxie is an ideal donor for the chassis. Basically identical to the 65 without the molded in exhaust.

Grinding exhaust systems off and going to the denti$t are 2 of my favorite things.

Sounds like this will be a great project. Just wondered how you found a 65 kit, unless you've had it in your stash for a while. I've been looking for another 65 for a long time. Wish round 2 would do this as well as a 67-Mercury Comet.

I'm not sure if this is going to be any help but the latest 65 galaxie from round2 was released last year I believe and I think it still has the NASCAR parts- it's the Jolly Green Gasser kit molded in Green- I'm sure there's plenty of the still available

That's the version I am going with. Hope green plastic seals better than red. As forthe nascar parts, didn't look like too many in there, but I don't have the other kit to compare it to.

MarkJ, Spotlight Hobbies has both of them listed right now. Good people to deal with.

66 chassis (black) does not have a molded in exhaust but a crude front end (metal axle type) while the 66 (green) has a nice front end with spindles and all and no rear tank to grind out.
I very much look forward to seing your work on this as I also have a 65 on deck.
