That really looks great, Pierre. I like the grille effect you put on it.

I took the plunge refinishing the kit bumpers with the GSW Chrome Metal.
As I predicted, a bumper is stretching it for a brush apply but I had no choice after the "accident" with the real bumper.
It came out with a good if a bit uneven finish.
I will let these parts sit a good week before any washes or weathering

They look really chrome like to me. Probably a good idea to let them cure for a bit before you do anything else to them. Thanks for the study on this new product.

I started painting the body in parallel to the building due to the curing delays I want to allow between various coats.
I had primed the body last week and today I did the base coat
I mixed Vallejo products: 2 part 70.811 blue violet, 1 part 70.809 royal blue, 3 parts metal medium (mica & binder mix) and 6 parts medium thinner.
3 coats, brush applied with 45 minute dry time between coats.
It looks ok visually and has some of that pearlescent effect I was looking for.
My biggest concern was for brush marks, particularly with the huge rear deck exposed without any large decals planned for it.
I am happy. Keep in mind this has yet to receive gloss coats and polishing.
Take note that the color looks different on these working shots with exterior light (cold) hitting from the side and a halogen (warm) work lamp overhead, these the reddish look on top and bluish sides.

I have completed the interior compartment enclosure with addition of side panels and rebuilding the interior floor atop the chassis withe Evergreen styrene.
Also completed and installed the engine. Did not do much to it other than wiring and the air intake (not glued to engine yet)

[url

Roll cage built (all scratch). Still need to do the seat with side bolster, shifter, fire extinguisher and IP with gauges to finish the interior.

[/url

Chassis done with some painting and a bit of weathering.

Looking great, Pierre. Like you said the final finish will look a lot different after polished and cleared. Interior is coming along great. The cage looks just right.

One element of a build I always failed to achieve properly was the windshield clips.
Just painting a little square or triangle looks underdone and fabricating little parts, gluing them on and detail painting is also difficult.
Ideally a painted part added after body paint would look crisper but it gives me the shakes thinking about the one chance only to place it right on spot.
So I got thinking about some type of guide to place them and glue from underside of the roof (then trim the excess rod after glue is cured)
I made these parts using 0.8 x 1.5 mm strip and 0.88 rod and a test fit on a spare body.
Part would be painted before install (not like picture)
Looking for peer input on the method, or if you have a better one, then I would integrate to the Galaxie project.

The early window clips of 1963 varied in style and generally not as robust as later clips. So no need to go full blast, but those are incredible! notworthy

Pierre, looks like a great system for a clean solution to a problem I have always had. Thanks for your work on this.

Decal day, my favorite. Making a few adjustments to the 64 livery ACE decals to adapt to a late 63 theme.

Just as a FYI, the (very comprehensive) decal set I designed for Fireball's 1963 cars has been released by Ace Decals. It includes the staggered late-season FORD lettering, among many other variations. It's available directly from Ace and from Mike's Decals, too.

Jodie, I just checked them out on Mike's and they are beautiful.
I wish I had known about them before I did this...
Oh well...

My second attempt at making seat belts (first was on my mystery motor Impala)
Going a little simpler here.

Also made the IP. Evergreen sheet for gauge panel.
Gauges are power slide decals, homemade bezels from craft wires and Micro Kristal Klear for glass.
Kit steering wheel with horn ring removed and 1mm tape wrap around the rim.

And thank you, Bill. A lot of work and research went into those two decal sets, and I also had help from a lot of good people along the way. It's the end of a long project and I wanted to get it done correctly. I hope the result makes folks happy.

(Incidentally, on the 1964 sheet, the taller "2" on the door numbers faces the front of the car. This will help it fit around the bulge on the front end of the door.)

Pierre, I am watching your work for when I finally tackle my own 1963 Galaxie, which I hope will be soon. Very nice and inspiring work.

Wow, Pierre. The color looks outstandng and the gloss is beautiful. The harness hardware and dash guage cluster look really impressive too . This is truly going to be an outstanding build.

Thanks Mark. I am happy with the color but mostly with the smooth finish.
I incorporated your idea of a polishable intermediate clear coat before hitting it with future and it looks like glass!
I plan to finish the interior today and will post pics.
Biggest issue right now is about the chrome refinishing. Need to investigate and I'll post about that too.

You can tell from that close up shot of the quarter panel, if you look at the light reflection line, that you achieved that pearlized effect you were looking for, and still got a high gloss finish. Everything is coming together fantastically.

Some pics of the finished interior
This one was a lot of work with lots of scratch building, incl floor, roll cage, IP gauges, shifter etc. but it was fun!

However things are not so rosy with the chrome saga.
A reminder I had to refinish the bumpers/grille and ended brush painting them with Green Stuff World Chrome Metal.
At the time they looked good (post from Nov Cool but the coating appeared fragile.
I tried protecting a test part with clear but it blurries up the finish.
GSW instructions are clear about NOT coating over their chrome.
So I decided not to clear the bumpers but give them a very long drying time...12 days!
Delicate manipulation yesterday dulled the finish...even starting to rub through on sharper radius areas.
I don't know if it was me doing a mistake with the coating or If I have a bad batch of paint..
The picture below does not show it all but believe me they are ruined.
Stripping them and looking for a solution...not good.

Pierre , I don't want to hijack your thread so go to the brush painters society forum and see what you think about the entry I made there. It might be a solution to your bumpers.

The end of the chrome saga.
I must accept I don't have a way to do chrome with a brush.
The only way forward was to do a "silvery" type bumpers hoping to somewhat replicate a weathered look produced from hard racing.
Far from good but the best I was able to save this build.
Dry brushed Vallejo Metal Color with some washes.
Photos show comparison to a car with weathered chrome bumpers
I'll be posting pics of the completed build it the Showroom section in the next day or so.
Many thanks for all the great advice from fellow modelers helping me through what for me was a challenging build.
