Just wondering what primer do you use and why.
Auto parts stores here quit carrying Duplicolor sandable. Tried Rust-oleum 2X ulta cover,, but it didn't seem to cure completely.

Tamiya, but Duplicolor is good if scratch-filling is necessary, being thicker than Tamiya. I avoid Rustoleum generally.

Tamiya for a while now. So far, I've used their white, gray, and reddish-brown primers. Good stuff - if you can find it.

Mr. Hobby makes great primers also. I still have some of a large can of MCW light gray and it is excellent too. It also will cover and protect well when thinned like water to avoid covering details.

I have tried a lot of primers, I started with spray cans like duplicator, then discovered Tamiya spray primer. I relied on tamiya spray primer exclusively for many years, however once in a while being an aerosol spray it all goes sideways bad can, bad conditions but on rare occasions there are problems with it.

I discovered gunze Mr. Surfacer and their leveling thinner, this stuff is great but you have to run it through your airbrush. However it is my preferred right now. I have also played with gianotes which is a newer Japanes brand it seems good and has some rarer colors including pink which is ideal under reds. It works well with a leveling thinner.

I have also tried some acrylic primers primarily Mission models. I so far have not had great luck with their primer.

My favorite has been Mr. Surfacer 1500 with about 50 percent leveling thinner. Silky smooth results and incredibly consistent. just needs some clean up.

I generally only use Tamiya. Red oxide for first layer, white over that, then color. I had been using the gray as the first layer but it's easier to see the contrast with the red. Less mistakes that way.

I have Dupli-Color primer as well for when getting down to bare metal, and then Tamiya white over that.
