|
|
I have 5 long-term projects I'm working on that requires building more than 250 models all told. All projects include Cup series cars only, though I do build other series as well, they simply don't count for this project.
I am doing NASCAR by the numbers in both scales I build, NASCAR by Year in both scales, and Winston Cup/Nextel Cup Rookies of the Year in 1/24 only. I update the chart at the conclusion of each year to reflect what I've added during that year...here are the projects as they sat as of 1/1/21. I will detail what I've built and will appear in the next chart when I update it in a few months.
Here is the 1/24 NASCAR by the Numbers project.
I added a bunch in 2020 but in 2021 I have not been doing much plastic work and have only added #10. in 2020 I added #s: 02, 03, 12, 16. 29, 31, 48. 58. 60, 62. 63, 71 and 84. I also upgraded #s 1, 2, 7, 11, 28. 36, 43 and 88.
Here is the 1/64 NASCAR by the Numbers project:
This is my main project and what I have spent most of 2021 working on. In fact, I have decided that to celebrate my 30th anniversary of collecting 1/64 NASCAR cars, which will be in 2022, I will finish the project. I'm very close now. In 2021 I've added #s 35, 59, 76, 81, 84 and 95. I fully expect to finish #05, 54, 62, 65, 86, 87 and possibly 91 by the end of the year.
As of this typing on October 1st, I've finished 61 builds in 1/64 in 2021 alone. I may approach or even surpass 100 depending on how long I have before it gets too cold to paint. (I paint outside in the northeast)
In 2020 I completed #06, 43, 47, 58, 73, 83, 88 and 93, as well as #120, 150 and 301, which, while not essential tp the project, absolutely count.
My NASCAR by Year project in 24th scale after 2020:
This has not changed in 2021. I've only finished 3 models in this scale in 2021, 1 from 1988 and 2 from 1999, and don't expect to add any more years either. In 2020 I added 1975, 1989, 1994 and 2014.
NASCAR by Year in 1/64:
This has changed somewhat. I've done a lot of Gen6 building and completed 2013, 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2021, and I have to just to clearcoat and final assembly and I'll knock out 2014 and 2017 as well. I have also completed 1962 and may finish 1949, 1983 and 2018 before the year is out as well. I do have decals for every year but getting the cars to use them on can be a challenge for the 50s and 60s, but I will...eventually.
My Winston Cup and Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year Project:
I came up with this project in 2006 but didn't build a single car to add to it until 2020, when I added 1989, 1996 and 2003. In 2021 I added 1988 but I do not expect to add any more, however, even adding just one is still progress. I am, at this time, only doing this project in 1/24 scale. 1979, 1984-87 and 1990-2007 were all produced so I would not have to make them. I would like to build the others; I've finished 1981 and 1977 will be done by the end of this week. Decals do not exist for the 1971 or 1976 cars, which will be a problem. _________________ Billy Kingsley

Thanks, it's really been a fun project...I envisioned the idea all the way back in 2006 but didn't really start working on it until last year,be here I was actively selecting projects to build specifically to fill holes on the chart.
I will finish the 1/64 by numbers project next year, my 30th anniversary in that side of the hobby. _________________ Billy Kingsley

Wow, I'm happy to do 2 projects in 1 year. Quite an undertaking you have going on there. |

Great work Billy. Some obscure ones you dont see built often. Keep up the good work. _________________ If you bought it a trucker hauled it.

Forgot to post my update on January 1st like I intended to.
I made huge progress on my 1/64 project. This is my main passion and my preferred scale, and I expect to complete the NASCAR by the Numbers and NASCAR by Year projects in this scale in 2022, which, not coincidentally, is also my 30th year as a fan of the sport. I just finished the only #63 Cup car possible to build this week but I have not photographed it yet. I have the 87, 54 and 39 in progress, and have the supplies to do the other numbers, so I am very confident that I can pull this off this year.
05 and 65 are very hard numbers to get so I'm glad I got them done.
The Year aspect made siginificant progress in 2021 as well, and I hope to finish that this year as well, although that will be harder due to the vintage years.
I didn't do much large scale plastic modeling in 2021, completing only three plastic 1/24 models. (I completed 160 1/64 builds though) but one of the three plastic models I finished was both a new number and a Rookie of the Year build, the 1988 Ken Bouchard car. No new years finished, the other two were both 1999, so I didn't make a new year chart.
I still have many years of work ahead of me before I finish the project in both scales, but that's ok, I do it because of passion. I have a handful of numbers in progress and expect to finish a couple of builds very soon that will fill in some missing numbers. The number and year chart will both look different next year. _________________ Billy Kingsley

This is amazing!
I was considering doing a little bit on the 1/64th side, you kind of inspired me to try that.
How do you display everything? |

Very impressive, Billy. I was hoping I could click on the small picture and get a big one. I need to visit your fotki site to get larger views. |

All of the builds have more photos on my Fotki. |
I went to your Fotki, but it is password protected. |
