Hello RNMB Modelers-
Think I finally figured out the photo posting!

I'm building Bobby Unser's #41, 1972 Torino that was a Holman/Moody entrant in the '73 Winston Western 500. Using the JoHan and MPC kits in combination, along with insight/info learned here on the Forum, and some custom touches too. It's my first build in about 30 years.

Thanks for the read.

More progress pics to follow.

Enjoy!
Bob B

Looks awesome, Bob. I'll be sure to follow along with this one. Bobby Unser was my favorite Indy car driver back in the day.

Wow - nice work. I see you did some work on the wheel openings. Takes some effort but the results are worth it!

And the hood pins - nice!

Thanks so much!
I'm a HUGE FAN of the modeling you show here, and a Torino fan too.
Working to get the detailed interior tub into the body.
It's a rather cozy fit!

Are you using the Johan interior/cage?

Using the Johan frame, chassis and cage, with mods to the frame, chassis, headrest and a more detailed dash.

The Johan cage is the best fitting cage I have come across, if a just a bit thick.

Making some progress. Mockup of interior tub into body, playing with the stance/ride height. Lots of loose ends here. So far I'm pretty happy with the fitment.

Looks like your getting the stance correct . The out of the box stance on these models is way too high. They look like monster trucks. Keep up the good work.

This is looking fantastic so far and agree that the stance is lookin' good - no 4x4 Offroad Torino here!

Can you please give any detail on what you have had to do to the suspension to get it to sit right?

Hello Racing1970-
I used the Johan frame/inteior tub. Chopped off the Johnn front suspension and added the MPC NASCAR style front clip (as shown and fabbed by others on this Forum). Rear suspension uses truck arms, Ford 9 inch and real coil springs. At the front I modified the MPC spindles to lower the front end.

Hope this helps!

Interior is coming together. Used the Johan roll cage with some mods. Fabbed the oil sump from scratch and added braided lines. Vintage Motorsport Magazine did a detailed review of this racer back in a 2017 issue, with lots of detail that helped me immensely with the accuracy. Doing the research s almost as much fun as the build. LOL!

Excellent detailing on the interior with the lines and such. I agree with you on the research. I always learn stuff that is so interesting. Its at least half the fun of building one of these replicas.

Nice work! Does the power bulge hood come in the MPC Kit or is it a resin item?

I know the MPC kit has it. It looks like Bob scribed in some blockoff detail.

Yes, the MPC kit comes with the bulge hood. Took a little work to better fit it to the body.

Yup, little scribed detail. Great eye for detail!
