LeeRoy won the Permatex 250 in 1963 in the 53 Studebaker when it was
Chrysler Hemi powered . For the 1964 race the car was Pontiac powered
and the outside graphics of the car were changed a bit. I do think it was the
same physical car that was raced in 63.

the 1964 Permatex car (Pontiac powered 53 Studebaker) ready for the trip to Daytona.

Was the last ride for the Studebaker. While leading the race coming out of the third turn,
the track was blocked with a multi car crash. Lee Roy did avoid that wreck but was
broaded sided in one of the worst crashes of his career. Burns on hands when the car
caught fire. This was the last year the vey aerodynamic 53 Studebaker was eligible for
the Permatex race. No in car radios in 1964 that most likey would have saved the day
and given LeeRoy his third Permatex win in a row...

Working on the 1963 version on the Studebaker. Will post in a week or two.

The AMT Studebaker is a very good detailed model to work from.
Happy to help. A fairly easy model to build. Can use a lot of the stock parts
In the kit.
