My father was a WWII Marine vet. A while back some of you guys helped me identify all of his accumulated medals (thank you). Dad died back in 2017 at the rich old age of 94. I took all of his medals and a copy of the letter my mother got back in 1945 when dad took a bullet on Okinawa. I engraved the back of Dad's purple heart with his name etc. I wanted to preserve this as best I could so I mounted it up in a display. I was pretty damned proud of how it turned out.

EXCELLENT POST Dennis! Your father was truly a part of what is known as "The Greatest Generation." I hope we have young people today who would be willing to do what your father did. Thanks Dennis.

I kind of know where you are coming from Dennis. My father in law was drafted to go to Vietnam. He was okay with this as this was his patriotic duty to his country. Well, turns out his platoon was on roaming duties through some rice fields when he heard a click, he told his closest platoon mates to scatter and he jumped off to the side and the mine took his leg. Unfortunately, he was only there for 5 days when this happened. The government never acknowledged he was even there. Fast forward to present, I thought he would like his medals encased such as you have done. Come to find out the Army never put in his paperwork for his medals so we are fighting that now. Hopefully they soon come through so he can get the recognition he deserves. Never once have I heard him complain about going or losing his leg at age 19. I love your design of the shadowbox. _________________ Would love to have time to finish but I have kids:
