| Does anyone know what year cup teams started to use hood and trunk teathers? |

| I can recall clearly that 1997 became the first year hood and deck lid tethers were mandated due to Ernie Irvan's hood flying into the back stretch grandstands at Daytona. I believe at that point it was optional or test, but after that incident, it became mandated. |

I have one of those kits in the stash but if memory serves me correctly there is a plate molded in the hood on the outside for the tethers. Been a very long time since I looked one over. |
