Thought it would be neat to have a Flat nose Monte Carlo picture reference thread made.

It's a tiny bit long but it fits well. The body line at the center of the wheel hub is weak but it's weak on the original body mold on the fender in front of the wheelwell, they modeled a superspeedway car and those were heavily massaged up there. IMHO it matches the body contour better than the original SS nose. Not sure if these will show you what you need but it's all I have. Molded-in fine mesh screen pattern in the grille and left headlight, I'll probably try to print up a faux factory grille decal to apply over the mesh. Not a bad effort, my only real complaint (and it wasn't their fault) is the fender tops are cambered downward to the hood opening in the original kit tooling while the flat nose fascia is straight across. I added Tamiya putty along the fender tops for about a half inch back and feathered it in to blend to the flat nose fascia.

A few minor issues I see -
1) The upper sides of the nose should be angled out from the bumper top to the upper edge of the headlight buckets; the headlight buckets too have this slight, yet noticeable forward angle from bottom to top.
2) The lower bumper ( below the rub strip ) is too thick; both the middle ( license plate area ) and the turn signal areas. Also no turn signal details or bezels.
3) The license plate area, between the bumperettes, should be flat across. |

I agree the bumper extends too far out in front of the grille. Maybe it can be sectioned? |

It lines up as well as it always did. That's just the old SS notch body with a new nose, they even include the original SS nose. I swapped the chassis for one I pulled out of a Folgers kit because I wanted to save the molded in white chassis for a build that needed a lighter colored chassis but they're identical. |

hi george. thanks for your assessment. a couple other things i noticed when looking at the photos is that on the real car the top of the bumper slants downward from the where it meets the headlight bucket. you can see it best on the #44 and #28 cars. also looking at the #20 cars it looks as if the "flat" nose isn't 100% flat across. it seems to peak slightly at the hood centerline. you can see it easily on the yellow and red #20's , and of course, as dave pointed out the bumber seems to stick out a little too far. _________________ Joined Jan 30, 2008

Now is everyone's chance to build the LW Wright fraud car!
I'll probably do the #16 Pearson car with mine. |

Hondo: Nice of you to credit photographer David Chobat. He was a good shooter and renowned for livening up the victory lane hat dance group shots with his cry of, "Once more! With enthuuu-siasm!" |

BB, David was was a good friend of mine back when I was working in the Cup series. And yes, he was a great photographer too. I have lots of pics taken by him of me and others in VL. _________________ Hondo |
