So I've got this hanging in my garage:

It's from 2005, Jeff Green was driving, I believe this particular piece ran at Infineon, not sure where else. I chipped off a small thumbnail-size chip of blue, and took some pics with an iPhone XR, in various kinds of light, and with a couple of other objects for reference.

This on the neutral gray driveway paver, in shade:

On a dusty metallic black car fender, late afternoon sun:

The black car paint was reflecting the sky, giving it a blue cast. Here it is in the shade, same dusty metallic black fender:

Indoors, on a drafting table, under a combo incandescent/fluorescent task lamp:

As a comparison to Tamiya TS-23, on a completed build of mine:

In person the Petty chip shows a bit 'greener' than the TS-23, less noticeable in this pic which shifted a bit 'red' overall for some reason.

As a reference for contrast, LocTite blue in relation to the Petty blue:

I'm not suggesting that LocTite blue is any relation to Petty blue, but it shows how a standard 'flag blue' compares.

Same thing, with a highlight reflection:

These last two images were shot indoors, on a slightly faded white paper envelope. Light is from a 'daylight' temperature desk lamp.

Nice comparison. Can you tell what color primer was used beneath the PB?

I build custom diecasts mostly to add to my collection of NASCAR title winning cars. That TS-23 looks a solid match for the Ford Torino Petty ran in '69 but doesn't match with the blue of his Mopar rides.

That's my experience as well. All the pre-mixed paints are too "blue". TS-23 over Tamiya gray primer was the closest match I found of all the samples I carried to the museum to compare in indoor lighting.

Exactly that Tom! Getting the right look for a model that will likely never be outside is the real trick. Drives me right up a wall. Smile
