Working on the Donnie Allison Monte Carlo. When did the GM teams switch to small block power? Seems like '75 was maybe the end, but I'm guessing teams may have switched earlier? Any info appreciated. Thx!

I think the 358 C.I. rule was set in 1975. Best I got. _________________ "Dude, it's not Camelot... it's only a model." "Details man, I need details!!" |

1973 is when the big block engines had to run a limited carb bore size. That was the nail in the coffin. It was 1971 when the big blocks had to start running restrictor plates.....IIRC |

First plate race was August at MIS, 1970. Yankee 400.
It was a BIG DEAL !! All the teams were complaining!
It was nice to see Glotzbach win in the #99 Daytona.
I was 14 at the time. I don't remember any difference in sound from the June MIS race, with no plates.
Various teams switched to small blocks at different times. Jr. Johnson was one of the last Chevy guys to switch...
The Winston Cup Yearbooks have all the answers. They are a MUST for race fans and modelers, IMO. |
