I pulled a sealed '87 combo kit from the stash tonight to continue my 'Project '88' builds. While prepping the body I noted the A pillars looked different. As I recall when these kits first came out the base of the A pillar ballooned out and had to be sanded down. This fresh '87 Bird body does not seem to need this mod......two versions of this body???
I do know I gave Monogram grief for the original A pillars.....did they listen and I never knew it? |

The combo kit WAS the first issue of that kit, IIRC. I would be surprised if they did more than one run of the combo. |

The kit I opened had a Ollie's price sticker of $7. So either they didn't sell worth a darn or they did have multi runs.
My mind may be confusing the work I did pre-production 87 Bird and the final draft. The first test shot was horrible......I have photos....see if I can find them. These were done during Jay Adams era at Monogram. |

Didn't they just do the 2 releases of the 87 Thunderbird? The Kulwicki/Schrader Combo and then the Allison Havoline. |

I've got both the Combo and the Allison kits and the bodies look identical to me.
Although the Combo bodies seem to have a bit more flash on them. |
