Bear Hobbies down on Cypress in Tampa (he's on Facebook) has been around forever. Great to deal with, has a good selection of kits/paints. Hobbytown in Brandon is pretty good as well.

Interesting pictures-I have several NASCAR rule books from the era and they say you can't have any electric motors in the trunk; it also says you can drill holes in the backing plates but no scoops.
